Burg Ronneburg

The short story about the castle Ronneburg

The castle Ronneburg was built in the 13th century on a steep basalt cone. They served as security for the territory and was originally in mainzischem possession. A century later it succeeded in possession of Ysenburg. The castle has a very important Renaissance architecture.

The castle or its complex consists of:

  • the rectangular core castle with their powerful defensive wall
  • a 30m high keep a circular plan
  • Saalbau on the west side of the main castle
  • Bakery north of the Saalbau
  • new bower with laying of the cornerstone in 1573
  • Zinzendorfbau also called the fourth gatehouse
  • Fountain House also called the third gatehouse
  • the second gate house which is the outermost Gatehouse the core castle
  • Vorburg, which is upstream of Kernburg in the east and south

Today, thanks to its good preservation, it is a popular excursion destination for the region. Our guest house is in the immediate vicinity and we offer you pleasant overnight stays for your excursion to Ronneburg.
